I was talking to my service user because I was asking what she wanted to eat for lunch because I wanted to empower her with a choice. She wanted a ham sandwich with salad cream and I was talking to her about wat she would like to do after she finished her lunch for example, watching tv, going to bingo or going to see her children and her grandchildren. This also gives her a choice to do what she wants socially. I am doing this because I would to empowerment with chioces so that she doesn’t feel like she is being told what to do.

Clothing

We were set the task of getting elderly people ready for bingo. It was difficult because some people didn’t want to go and I tried to get them ready but they were moaning. I managed to convince most of them to go to bingo, it was important that they went because it helped them get fresh air, they can win money (good entertainment), it also helped to bulid on their frienships.

The elderly service users had arthritis so it was hard to get their coats on. I empowered them by asking if they were happy to do it themselves. Some did this. One had bad arthritis and she needed help putting her coat on. I also helped to put her shoes and jewellery.

I did really well in this because I gave them a chance to get ready themselves but one of them couldn’t get their coat on so I helped her with it. By helping her put the coat on she was on her way to bingo with her friends. I empowered her to go with her friends on the bus or getting a cab to bingo.

I could improve on this because I could done better if I didn’t laugh at the other care worker. But I could of done better if I could be careful with the people arm just in case if I hurt them but I can’t pull their arm right back.
